Licence and updates
The free edition
Clap Studio is free with one limit: the library holds up to 100 files, samples and field recordings together, demo sounds included. Every feature is the same. The status bar and Settings > Licence show the count ("63 of 100 files"). Once the library is full, a scan adds nothing more and says how many files were left out. Nothing is ever deleted, hidden or changed because of the limit: a library that already holds more keeps showing and playing all of it, and Remove from Library… makes room. USB sticks are browsed, not added, so they don't count.
A licence
A licence costs EUR 19.99 once (excl. VAT; VAT is added at checkout, depending on your country) and unlocks the app on up to 5 Macs, with every future update. See Pricing and licence.
- Activate with Clap Studio > Enter Licence… and the key from the purchase email, or open the activation link in that email. Activation is once per Mac and online; after that the app never checks again and works offline for good. Only the key, a scrambled identifier of the Mac and the computer's name are sent.
- A Mac without internet: click This Mac is not online in the same window. It shows a request code; turn it into an activation code on Activate a Mac offline from any other device.
- Moving to a new Mac: on the old one, choose Deactivate This Mac… in Settings > Licence or the Clap Studio menu. That frees its place and goes back to the free edition with every file kept. A Mac you no longer have can be removed on Manage your Macs.
- Gifts: a gift code pasted into Enter Licence… opens Redeem a gift, where you get a key of your own. See Give as a gift.
- Lost key: have it sent again to the licence's email address.
Errors say what happened and that nothing on the Mac changed. If the licence server is down, Macs already activated are not affected.
Updates
The app checks for a newer release when it opens and once a day while it is open; Clap Studio > Check for Updates… checks now. A window offers Update, Later or Skip This Update, with the release notes. Update downloads the new version, checks it and installs it in Applications, while you keep working; Restart opens it once Clap Studio has saved your work. Your samples and library are kept. Check for updates automatically in Settings > General (also in Settings > Privacy) turns the checks off. What changed in each version is in the release notes.
